About.

The saying "news travels fast" might be an old one, but the 21st century brings it a whole new meaning. The creation of social media has taken the world of news and transformed it completely, as it allows information to be spread to a whole new plethora of people in a brand new way. Before social media people would be forced to spread news and such orally, then in written form, then with television programs, until finally media platforms online gave easy accessibility to everyone. It became routine for one to unlock their phone and within two seconds be reading about the most recent event on twitter. Between school shootings, celebrity sightings, government lawmaking, and many more, social media has been able to inform people within minutes of what is happening. This is why activists have taken their platforms to the many social media sites to express their cause and easily spread it to users.
Social media also brings news to a whole new audience, being the younger generation which takes up most of the percent of users on these sites. It was very common for news, including that of activist efforts, to be secluded to older generations that were used to reading the newspaper or having the news on television, for example. These types of outlets never seemed to fully reach this younger generation, so the use of social media has played a huge role in informing people aged teenagers to young adults about current events. and allowing them to decide what they want to be involved in, if anything.
Whether people choose to read and ignore or read and get involved, the information is still right there while they scroll through their accounts. It is extremely difficult to go on your social media account and miss the many tweets or posts regarding the current protest or movement that is being held and advocated for. People have a choice in how they process this information that is right on their screen, however they usually do not have a choice of completely ignoring it which is the reason why activists can so easily and quickly access a plethora of people.
